Timely or Tasteless? "Apparitions" Appear On Video In Wake Of Haiti Devastation

While these are most likely video artifacts, lens reflections, or outright manipulated hoaxes, the chance still remains genuine apparitions have been caught on video. However, if not, this poses a serious question of ethics within the paranormal community. Phantoms and Monsters has managed to collect several videos and stills for examination and will have more in the future.

What In The Earth Is Happening?

Sinking soil in the San Antonio, TX region is only the most recent example of a long string of inexplicable geologic happenings in the south-central US. Over the past 24 months or so, numerous quakes, which were otherwise rare, have shook the ground in Kansas, Texas, and Oklahoma. Among the most recent of these occurred in Jones, OK not too long ago, and registered nearly a 5.0 on the Richter scale. Now, the sinking soils of Texas are baffling geologists near San Antonio. Could this be due to increased seismic activity? Some scientists are banking heavily on a "big one" coming from the nearby New Madrid fault along the Mississippi, but could something as dangerous, but far closer and more elusive be building up beneath our own feet?

Please Standby

I'm working on a million projects at once it seems. However, I have several stories I look forward to posting this week. And soon, after my agonizingly lengthy transition, I will be back into pre-move posting form, including news on several forthcoming works and new sources for purchasing Strange State, etc...

Avian Abductions

Tales of giant raptors absconding with small children are plentiful, but perhaps there is truth to these tales.

In September 1908, it was reported that a young girl was snatched up by bald eagle on Waukhaw mountain, near Caldwell, NY. The bird - one of a pair - struggled with all forty pounds of three year old Gladys Vreeland before depositing here in the boughs of a nearby hemlock tree.

Her father, local farmer John Milton Vreeland, witnessed the frightening abduction. He stated that the bird, which had been soaring high above, had swooped down to pluck a hen from within a thick bush. When the little girl went to the hen's aid, the eagle pounced on her, digging its sharp talons into her body, tearing both dress and flesh.

As he raced from the field nearby, a horror-stricken Vreeland watched helplessly while the bird flapped furiously - perhaps to extricate itself from the twisted fabric of the girl's dress.

Gladys screamed in terror, struggling to wrest herself free from the bird's grip. As the bird reached the top of the hemlock, the dress ripped and the bird was able to drop the girl into its branches. A pile of hay nearby was used to break the girl's fall from the tree and she suffered only minor injuries.

Panthers On The Prowl Again

To those who continue to denounce the presence of cougars in the Sooner State, recent images caught by a trail cam in Atoka, OK might just silence the nay-saying. It seems as if a steady trend is fast emerging: the once prevalent cougar is once again returning to the central and eastern portions of the U.S. This may have to do with a global warming trend, increased development in the montane west, or better species protection practices.
